A key purpose of writing is for students to be able to communicate clearly to an external and sometimes unfamiliar audience. In fourth grade the focus of writing instruction is:
Write opinion pieces on topics or texts, supporting a point of view with reasons and information.
Write informative/ explanatory texts to examine a topic and convey ideas and information clearly.
Write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, descriptive details, and clear event sequence.
The fourth grade classes will participate in a sharing session that will explore these three types of writing. Please bring a lesson and resulting product that illustrates and supports one of the types of writing found in the Common Core Curriculum. Be able to share the sub standard(s) the lesson and product support. Also, bring a copy of the lesson to share with the other schools. (20 copies)
